re: #263 Walter L. Newton

As a person that was in the renewable energy business for almost 15 years, I wasn’t one to ever claim it was unrealistic. But I did claim, along with the people on the research side of the fence that is is not plug and go, there are multiple factors involved before it becomes a viable and inexpensive alternative, and there are hundreds of areas besides just substituting “this form of renewable” with this current existing energy technology.

The real problem is between a realistic future of renewables versus the magic fairy future that some green types perceive.

The difference is that it takes massive investment. Public investment. Government investment.

And it requires sacrifice. Things have to get more expensive for awhile, because nothing is as easy as pulling energy-dense hydrocarbons from the ground and reaping huge energy outputs for minimal inputs.
