Well, he was very close friends with Hayek and with others, and he really did reject socialism and held ‘freedom’ as the highest thing that society should privilege. However, being a v. smart dude, he recognized that intolerance is an enemy of freedom, something which the garden variety modern libertarian or self-crowned ‘classical liberal’ has a lot of difficulty grasping.
