I didn’t curse the tax man either, for the same reasons — but this came as a surprise to me (I expected to pay more, but not so much more) because the gains were from funds I never look at — they’re there “for later.”

Having reserve funds is a truly wonderful thing since some degree of financial security is massively destressing* and also something that a lot of people (and Lizards) unfortunately do not have.

* - As compared to distressing. Knowing one has the ability to walk away from an abusive work environment or shit job if necessary is liberating. Also annoying to some managers since one of their sticks is ineffective on you.
