It would be nice if that opposition was based on meaningful analysis of those political philosophies as opposed to a Cold-War atavist “hiss and boo at the pantomime villain” reflex.

But then again, most people don’t grasp the economic-philosophical roots of capitalism, and basically use the word to mean “the status quo in the US.” Indeed, the people who are the loudest about capitalism are the ones who want to tear out the pages of Wealth of Nations that deal with the merits of regulation and the state preventing pursuit of profit from stamping on common folk.
