That’s pretty true now. At $1800/troy oz, few Americans are buying gold jewelry. Other than engagement rings, gold and platinum are outside of the average American’s experience, and even for wedding rings alternative metals are now common.

Silver. Did jewelry making in high school and silver remains my favorite metal of them all. I do have a gold wedding ring but that was because we had metal from family bands melted into custom bands.

But if I were to chose now? I’d have something done in silver. Probably doesn’t hurt that I have a love of film photography as well… but seriously, I enjoyed casting the work I did in that class (lost wax). I wonder if my dad still has it?
