My nan once patched up a hole in my socks. It, of course, makes complete sense. It takes all of a few minutes to do and no one sees your socks anyway.

There is actual evidence out in the world that suggests that darning sock is bad for your footsies. The raised lump is an irritant that can cause problems.

Also, new pair of socks $3, or whatever? What is your time worth? Opportunity costs are important, here.
