Looking through Wikipedia, it appears that in one of the leaked documents, the US Ambassador in 2008 described Algeria as “an unhappy country” in the understatement of the decade.

With the background I have major wise, I will be watching what happens next closely.

Interesting. Really wish I knew more about the region. Took a class on modern Middle Eastern history a couple years ago but only half of the semester was really spent discussing countries and of the countries discussed, Algeria was not one of them.
