Yes indeed, and once identified as suspicious, I doubt they would want to approach closely enough to grab a VIN. I imagine they will get that from the wreckage if it wasn’t similarly removed.

They will recover serial numbers from scattered parts. If stolen, they will know from when and where. If not somebody is about to get raided. The response to this is going to be all out, just like after Oklahoma city.
