Oh, and one more gripe on behalf of folks who still have no power or heat in the NYC metro area. It’s frakking cold out. The power can’t get restored fast enough.

I remember when Katrina hit, and there was a concern when the temps would drop into the 50s that people might suffer.

Hey, we’re talking about the 20s here. It was in the mid-20s in Bergen County this morning. That’s frakking cold for someone who doesn’t have power in their home. It’ll get real cold in a house with no power real quick. And that’s if the house is intact; it’ll be even colder in homes that have damage.

Apartments that lost power and got them back yesterday still aren’t out of the woods since it takes time for the heat to come back to comfortable levels - and ConEd in Manhattan isn’t running steam to some areas as it tries to get things back.

Given the water damage in the lower floor of my friend’s rented duplex a drop below freezing for any period of time will do a pile of damage. Structural damage since the walls and such are still sodden and unheated.

I think they might have power back as of yesterday, but the furnace and water heater are still off since they got a salt water bath and have not been inspected yet (to their knowledge). They will be pestering the landlord for an update today among other things.
