All this makes me wonder what it would have been like in the Watergate era had their been instant massive communication like now. Who would have been all the players using the media to support Nixon, the stars and public personalities that would have been the Sarandons and Woods’ of the day.

But the biggie…would it have changed the outcome?

It seems to me that the big difference is not the speed of communications, but rather the nature of political corruption. Back in those days, politicians were more likely to be corrupt in the usual sort of way - pork barrel projects, mistresses on the payroll, horsetrading for votes, etc. - while still putting country over party.

Now? I think we’ve gotten rid of the corrupt percs of office, only to enable a deeper, more sinister form of corruption - party and power over country.
