Do the total costs of war figure in Soldier salaries? I’m tired, help me out here. Does that get chanelled back into the economy in a positive way.

I don’t know. I don’t know that the costs cited in that article are accurate. But I do know that there is real talk of killing certain science programs in favor of “fiscal responsibility”. I think it is a short sighted shot in the foot, as the space program has granted many non-space related benefits to our society.

I also think that fighting terrorism is important, and note that there are many non-military related applications our society has benefited from as a result of military related R&D and various war efforts.

Incidentally, this is also what frustrates me about those who try to kneecap R&D in the field of alternative energy. I believe such research will also yield secondary and tertiary benefits to our economy that we have not yet considered.

Sorry for being all over the place there, but as I said, I’ve been drinking.
