Edited wrong, posted two thoughts and didn’t come out the way I meant.

What I meant to say: This shit happens all the time with both ideologies, don’t make out the tea partiers out to be any worse than the left when Bush was in power, media coverage not withstanding.

Eh, the left generally don’t like guns, so what are they going to do? write an angry letter at you? Threaten to leave the country? I didn’t exactly hear any credible leaders like governors of Texas threatening secession on the left in the Bush era. ;)

I suspect part of the problem is the hyperbolic rhetoric and threats coming from the far right have more… credibility, if that’s the right word. Precisely because:

a) the perception is that the right is more likely to have guns, and therefore more likely to use said guns, than the left wing, who … tend to write angry letters and threaten to leave the country.

b) More importantly, it’s not just the random crazy fringe group on the right, you have Congressmen, Governors and various state members of government who are using and riding the whole nonsense for their own gains (and hoping they don’t get pulled under by the crashing waves).

(yes, I’m making some generalizations, but I do think the point is valid)
