Stacy Abrams made a big splash in the press with her run for Georgia governor. She was also the first major-party African-American nominee for any state governor’s office. In 2019 she gave the response to the State of the Union address, raising her profile further.

Unfortunately, a lot of voters choose name-recognition over experience and expertise.

That’s not to say she doesn’t have either, and her work in her voting rights organisation is important.

First major party African-American nominee for any state governor’s office?

Does the name of democratic former Virginia governor L. Douglas Wilder ring a bell?
