I’m not sure blaming this on the ‘political class’ is going to help much. The GOP is the main one committing themselves to making this a toxic environment right now, and their continued dalliance with the increasingly lunatic Tea Party is a large part of the reason why.

I think blaming ‘the political class’ for this is ignoring the elephant in the room.

Right now, this may be correct.
But I have no doubt that the Dems would be right back at it if the GOP had power. And I think Lawhawk’s term “the political class”, as in generally this occurs by those in politics when their party is out of power, is right on target.
