re: #284 Decatur Deb
We drink wine like the Italians do—no snobbery. The best glass I ever had was in a pizzeria in Pavia. It cost about 0.8 Euro. Like most vino di tavola, it probably was brought to the cafe from a cooperativa, where it was pumped into the cafe’s 40 ltr jerobam from a stainless steel pump totally indistinguishable from a gasoline pump.
We drink 2 kinds of wine—a glass of box wine in the evening or a bottle of “snob wine” for celebrations.
I am lucky to live in a winemaking region where you can go right to the vintner’s and get an outstanding bottle for around 8 euros (used to be more like 6 euros)
