Thank you. Realizing I was just being too lazy to do some research, I left and read several articles. Mainly it is a Shi’a tradition. Some of the leaders have been trying halt the gore. It might be politically incorrect to say this out loud, but there is an inherent violence in such practices that seem to be carried to an extreme by some.

There’s a health issue as well, I would think.
