For about 30 years now I’ve speculated about a coming surge point in human evolution. A variety of factors, technical, social, demographic, etc. would combine to create a supreme crisis that would eliminate a number of counter-survival traits in the human race; things like sadism, pathological greed and oppositional defiant disorder. These traits make it difficult to survive in a situation that would require some degree of cooperation. This is an apocalyptic idea, implying mass death, and I do not like it but that has not kept it from seing plausible. With the frankly bizarre response to covid, nothing less than a mass movement to promote a deadly disease, we may be seeing it happen, or start to happen in real time.
