Well, if you’re capable of bequeathing billions, that’s one thing. But nobody I know likes the idea of busting their hump most of their adult lives in the hopes of leaving a business or a nest egg or maybe just a home to their family only to see that dream go *poof* when they die.
What would you suggest?
The inheritance talk has… has always had… a multimillion dollar exclusion. The taxable portion of an estate only applies to what’s over and above that — it also excludes working farms or ongoing wholly-owned family businesses. Nobody has ever — and I mean ever, the right-wing researchers looked really hard and couldn’t find a single example more recent than 1962 — of a family losing their farm or business to inheritance tax.
