I think we’re living in a culture of violence in the U.S. that is increasingly becoming accepted as normal. The bar is moving over further and further like the proverbial frog in the pot with the temperature moving up a little at a time until the frog is cooked. We can point to a bunch of individual pieces like violence in movies and TV, video games, the evening news… ever increasing fixes of stimulation. They’re all part of a whole attitude that says “there’s nothing we can do about it.”
