He’s not a jerk as far as my interactions with him go.

I haven’t read the thread fully, but if the gist of it is he’d like to see a religious character in a comic break out and adopt atheism I agree with him. Media is full of instances where religion is the desired outcome, time for a equivalent trip away from religion.

I’d personally like to see religion disappear completely.

You know, I think I and a lot of other people would have no issue with that simple statement.

On the other hand, just like atheists rightfully bristle at the thought that they cannot be moral people because morality requires religion, pretending that everything religion contributes to a person’s life is evil and everyone should drop religion RIGHT THIS INSTANT or they are fundamentalist idiots deserves a similar response.

His attitude comes across (in both this thread and a multitude of others) as very much the second category.
