Telling the media to get out is the surest way in the world to get the strongest and most ambitious media types to stick around. They will smell a Pulitzer prize in the air so they will hide in dumpsters, crawl under bushes, climb trees, risk arrest and bodily injury, and do whatever else it takes to get the story the cops don’t want seen. Savvy media types even have their own gas masks and of course, the best imaging and recording gear money can buy.

Yes, but some of the stations will order their crews to leave, not wanting to damage expensive equipment or incur liability for injured news crew members. So which the most ambitious news people will indeed stay in a situation like that if they can, quite a few of them will have to leave anyways in order to keep their jobs.
