White magazine shuts down after refusing to feature same-sex weddings (Australian Broadcast Co.)

The invisible hand giveth, and it taketh away, as over one hundred wedding professionals, many LGBT, boycott buying advertising in a wedding magazine.

The magazine insists it is “secular,” and the owners needed time to work through their “feelings” about a “white-hot political issue.” (Translation, we’re Christians, how dare our advertisers not let us be bigots even though many of them are gay or lesbian, and how dare our subscribers demand where we stand on marriage equality)

One of Australia’s leading wedding magazines, White, is shutting down following its refusal to feature same-sex weddings.

Founders Luke and Carla Burrell, who are Christian, say the magazine became the target of a damaging campaign after Australia voted to legalise same-sex marriage last year, and a number of advertisers withdrew their support.

“White Magazine is no longer economically viable,” they said in a blog post.

“As much as we love what we do and are inspired by the positive impact it’s had, we need to draw the curtain on this part of our lives.”
