Agreed. When Putin takes Transnistria he may annex it or leave it as a semi-autonomous region but the taxes and duties will go to Moscow via his “customs union” thing he’s putting together.

Sounds like the 18th century Stamp Act and similar tariffs. Tax the colonies to enrich the crown, as it were.
