Hitchens’ characteristic audacity in general has tended to inspire chuckles from me, but this is seriously awful news. I really hope that he is going to be okay. He is a truly good man, who happens not only to be guided by a passion that comes from having his heart in the right place, but also presses into its service a razor-sharp intellect and a talent of writing like a demon.
