Because nothing gets done if you do that, James. In order to succeed in fixing the Garden State’s finances, Christie has to retain leverage and negotiating power with the legislature. If he just does what he thinks he should do and neglects the needs of his coalition, then the Democrats will simply dig in their heels and try to wait him out. He needs to retain his base of support and in politics that often means helping people you don’t like.

I prefer the method that Obama has stated, you go in, you do what you can, and what you think is right, and if you don’t get relected thems the breaks.

You can work with people you don’t like, but you shouldn’t say things you don’t believe just to improve your chacnes of getting elected…
