Figure 35 hours a week per employee - a single employee getting a $1 bump would be $35 (before taxes).

A business that has say 20 employees would have to pay $700 more a week to employees. Over the course of a year, that’d be $36,400.

Some businesses may operate with razor thin margins, but if you’re that close to the margins that a $1 increase in the minimum wage, then you’re doing something wrong.

Mind you hiring and training new employees aren’t without costs as well - and if you have a higher wage, those people may be more willing to stick around and take more pride in their work, meaning higher efficiency and better work product.

You keep mentioning 35-hr week. Do NYer’s not do a 40-hr week? Is it because of the commute times?
