I forget exactly where I read it, some early 20th book of political philosophy. Modern liberals want to use Hamiltonian means to achieve Jeffersonian ends, while modern conservatives (read: teabaggers; sane ones like DF and steve are exempt) want to use Jeffersonian means to achieve Hamiltonian ends.

Hamilton was an abolitionist (I think he was actively so).

Jefferson said he abhorred slavery, but …

for all his good work, I have big issues with Jefferson over slavery.
