My dad was old school. His reply would’ve been “Do as I say, not as I do.” Any further protests would have been met with “This is not a democracy, it’s a dictatorship. The discussion is over.”

My kids are too bright for that. I figure my next best bet is to appeal to their good sense and love them even when they aren’t sensible. That way if they listen I can be proud and if they don’t I can still be there to pick up the pieces with them. (I won’t kid you though I hope they take the advice in the first place - at least the good advice).
