Amen to your post. This bill is the beginning, not the end. Some things about it will be stupid—those things can be corrected down the road. Some US health insurance companies have behaved despicably, but mine has not. I’d like to see us rewarding the good ones and punishing the bad ones. Whether we can do that without a public alternative isn’t clear, but… American businesses are very adaptable.
