OK, it would interesting to see who NC Gov. Cooper would pick to fill Sen. Burr’s vacancy should he resign (he won’t)
Cooper would be required to appoint a Republican, and I wonder if they would have to (or be able to) hold a special election in Nov. to fill the seat for the remainder of the term

Can Cooper hold the appointment open for a decade or two? Burr was proud of his ability to do so regarding more than one judicial position.
