I think you could probably extend that further… most people in this country are no where near ready to elect an non-Protestant Christian president. Lieberman’s candidacy was not helped by the fact that he’s a Jew, nor Romney’s by his Mormon faith and there’s some evidence that Giuliani was penalized for being Catholic. I couldn’t even imagine a Hindu or Buddhist trying to run, never mind succeeding.
