re: #292 Dr Lizardo

Czech attitudes are pretty liberal; there’s no marriage equality here yet, but I reckon it’ll come in the next few years or so. Who knows? Maybe this vote in Ireland will spur things on.

I hope it does. I’ve been told, “You’re a funny kind of Muslim - supporting marriage equality and all” to which I reply, “The denial of equal rights to any person, no matter of what, is injustice. And there are commands in the Qur’an for Muslims to stand against injustice. Injustice towards the LGBT community is injustice towards all. End of story.”

Now granted, some of my co-religionists my quite vehemently disagree with me. But I know in my heart what is right.

And I will stand for it.

I have to say. I remember 10 years ago when I was in high school and we debated SSM. I was a minority in being vocally for its legalization. It really is amazing how attitudes have changed. I think and this is what the RR fears most is that gay people have been humanized. People aren’t buying the gay people are pedos crap anymore or the even more fucked up gay people are demonically possessed. People are seeing gay people and they’re seeing a brother, sister, father, mother, aunt, uncle, friend, etc. And I have to say this was one of the big things for me about 13 years ago when I met a somewhat distant relative who is gay. He’s a well educated and intelligent guy who came from a loving family.
