She had two moments that worked. The convention speech, and the debate with Biden. The former, of course, was a performance of a written script. The latter involved rote learning responses to questions, and Biden pulling his punches to be a gentleman - compare that debate with the one where he nearly reduced Paul Ryan to tears.

But the Couric interview was Palin without a script or practice - total deer in the headlights. Christ, even Trump let her do ONE event with him, where she spewed such a word salad even he could see it.

I saw through the Mean Girls convention speech bullshit as she was talking, and I was marginally a Republican back then (as in, I’d still occasionally vote for a Republican). It was utterly unserious.
