re: #295 Mark Winter

Try early fall, the weather is often more stable than in summer and the Southern beeches are magnificent.

If not Antarctica I’ll definitely sail around Cape Hoorn this time. Also plan some hiking on Navarino Island.

Torres del Paine are tricky, the weather can be foul for weeks. Should it get too bad I’ll hike in the Parque Nacional Los Alerces which is beautiful in fall.

Two years ago I climbed the Aconcagua.

Early fall in Patagonia, that would be Late March through Early May then….ok, good advice. Haven’t been to that part of the world for over a decade, may be a good idea to return before I’m 40. My Punta Arenas friend gave me a local guide book on Torres del Paine, somehow I don’t recall them emphasizing that bad weather warning!

Aconcagua? The highest peak in South America? Can that be climbed by average folk like Kilimanjaro is? Or does one have to be a professional mountain climber?
