Personally, I wonder why the Brits dropped the Lewis for the Bren. Only MG better than the Lewis is the MG 34/42.

The Bren’s box magazines were easier to handle and to make compared to the Lewis’s pan/drum mags. Moreover, the Bren was felt to be more accurate and that was important to the British Army at the time.
