Special counsel Jack Smith, citing Donald Trump’s upcoming March 4 trial, asked the Supreme Court to rule quickly on whether the former president is immune from prosecution over actions he took while in the White House. Trump’s lawyers opposed the request to expedite the appeals process, saying the issue is too important to rush and accusing Smith of trying to influence the 2024 election.
