But I guess it was used in that movie too, earlier than Oz… hmmm… Bert Lahr was actually illiterate until late in life, and most of the lines he performs in that movie were fed to him before a scene and he adlibed a lot of them too.

Interesting bit of movie trivia. I hadn’t known that, and I know alot about the making of The Wizard of Oz. My favorite story is that one of the jackets purchased from a second-hand store for Harry Morgan’s wardrobe in the Kansas scenes actually turned to have belonged to L. Frank Baum, the man who wrote the book the movie was based on.
