the govt dropped its objections at the last minute, which was the right call. and i am grateful that the administration did the right thing. but there was a certain chilling aspect to this affair that sends a bad message. if you risk it all to help us fight terrorism through espionage, you need to know that we will not hang you out to dry. and if “would be” good guys figure we’ll screw them if things get dicey, we will not be offering ANY incentive at all for them to help us. And in the world of mideast intrigue, things like that matter a LOT.
