nobody ever has to press 1 for English in this country. “Para espagnol” is always the sub-category. Why people continually bitch about having to do something that they’ve never had to do is beyond me.

They resent the idea that many people in the USA are more comfortable speaking Spanish than English, and retailers (among others) are catering to them by, you know, being helpful and stuff.

One member of my family was under the impression that soon everyone in the USA was going to have to learn Spanish, because reasons, and that was a bridge too far for him. I just shook my head. Back in the day, Birchers were afraid we’d all have to learn Russian, because Commies. Didn’t make sense then, either.
