re: #290 Barefoot Grin

When I was in college in Atlanta my eldest brother was in grad school at University of South Carolina. One year he came down to pick me up to drive home to Illinois for Christmas. Along the way we stopped at a Stuckey’s gas station and, as a joke, bought a pecan log for our other middle brother as a joke. He kept it and the next year regifted it to me. I waited a couple of years and then regifted it to my oldest brother, and the tradition continued for many years, each time with a better ruse to hide what the actual gift was. There’s a strong possibility that it is in a box in my parents’ garage to this day. That’s what Christmas treats like fruit cake reminds me of.

My sister and I had to have the Stuckey Pecan Log roll with the cherry bits in it. That’s what we got whenever we stopped at a Stuckey’s store. Just the plain Stuckey Pecan Log wasn’t enough.
