re: #212 The Shadow Do

I just caught a glimpse of the show, but my thought was that a wood plane by the Germans was more likely an outgrowth of the destruction laid on them by the Brits mosquito. My guess is that stealth was a benefit they probably were not designing for. But I sure as heck could be wrong, since I usually am…

I don’t think you are. For some reason, the History Channel is committed to portraying Nazi era Germans as technical supermen and they tend to ignore some facts and exaggerate others in doing it. The Horten Ho-220 was no more advanced than the contemporary Northrop flying wings and Northrop was first by a pretty good margin (1929). The XB-35 was designed before any American knew about the Horten jet and had good stealth characteristics as well even though it was made of metal and was enormously larger. The experimental Northrop N-9M had (and still has) first flew in 1942 and has a very low radar signature, so much so that its transponder has to be used all the time. It was restored in the early 80s and was flying until July 2007 when it was damaged by an engine fire. It was not badly damaged and will almost certainly be restored again.
