Read a really good book about that a while ago, and that’s pretty much inaccurate.

It’s hard to understand now how much power the abolitionist movement actually had, and how much they did to make that war happen.

Interesting factoid from the same book: The southern Baptist churches were formed specifically to split off because the classic (northern Baptists) were so strongly anti-slavery and wanted it to be illegal.

I gladly stand corrected.
