Ah, yes, the good old days again, a simpler time when all was folksy roses and our LaSalle ran great.
I was born in 1949. I remember the “good old days.” When young loafers were carted away by the draft, drunks could come home and beat their wives with impunity, rapists got off because “she asked for it,” women in the workplace could either put out or quit when the fat-ass boss leaned on them, corrupt cops could beat people who had the wrong haircut. Going further back, I remember “whites only” signs and death trap tail-finned Bulgemobiles with 300 hp but no seatbelts and migrant workers who looked like (and actually were) starving refugees and the polio epidemic.

Right now, with all its problems and fears and insanity, is the best time in human history to be alive. This is the world I helped build and I am proud of it. It is a long way from being perfect but it is a hell of a lot better than the one I grew up in.

Fuck the good old days and this whole lost-golden-age Atlantis myth.
