at the turn of the millenium, people were stocking up on water. I think it was 9/11 at which the government reminded us that we should plan at least 2 days before services could be implemented. I think your 3 days is a better bet.

One of the best tips is to get the laundry done. I guess that works better for disasters you can see coming. Probably not so handy for the earthquake folks out west.
