Why not just follow the Canadian model and make them the “US Armed Forces”. Think of the redundancy that would remove.

My answer to the aircraft issue. Send in the drones. On the manned side most of our current missions could be done with transports with JDAMS being pushed out the back. (almost sarcasm).

Manned fighters are “sexy” but really with the costs and risk of pilots lives. Why not spend the money on a drone/missile no one cares about if it doesn’t come home? Can’t torture a drone.
