Since “Khazar” is similar to the Hebrew word for “pig”—which doubtless has an Arabic cognate—I have wondered whether this may be the source of the “pigs” part of the “Jews are sons of apes and pigs” in the Koran, seeing as how the Khazars did supposedly convert to Judaism a few hundred years before Mohammed came up with Islam, and disappeared a few hundred years after Islam had conquered much of the Middle East..

The Khazars converted to Judaism in the 8th or 9th century. Islam was founded in 627 AD.
