On one hand, we have a vaunted tradition of athletes coming out of nowhere to make the Big Leagues. That would all but die out under a unionized system.

But we also have the big conferences where players are simply the de facto minor leagues for the NFL and NBA, and that fact should be recognized,. Stop pretending that they are students and let them receive a salary, study part-time and have a chance to return and finish a degree when then their career ends or fails to take off.

Because what America’s schools need right now is to be pissing even more money away on their athletic programs while letting their academic facilities rot. Our chem labs and equipment are 50+ years old? Fuggit, there’s ball players to be paid!
