It already got away from him. Was originally only going to be three books. The secondary stories got out of hand and things went off the rails with the main plot lines advancing glacially after that point.

Seriously, how much time can he spend describing feasts of unborn puppies? I am guessing that he can expand that ‘plot device’ some more. The Daenerys Targaryen plot line is moribund in the books.
