Abbott says his concern is that the U.S. government will use the U.N. as a “backdoor mechanism” to impose gun control measures that they can’t pass in Congress.

The argument can be made that the treaty is worded so vaguely that there is no specific violation of the Second Amendment right now, but there could be a violation later on depending on the way that the United Nations applies and interprets this treaty,” said Abbott.
