It is indeed a sickening cycle.
But more and more Israel is beginning to resemble the battered wife who always goes back to her husband, declines to press charges, and tells everyone in her family that “he” has changed. At some point, the woman is deliberately sacrificing her own safety for reasons known only to her.
No amount of support can help her if she continuously returns to the guy who batters her.
In this case, the “guy” could be the U.N., the media, or Hamas itself. The result is the same.
